My Story

“Plenty…Plenty of spag bol”.  [Ref Jacob Allen: How to complete a 100km ultra run]

In March 2022, we (a group of friends and work colleagues of the JCB Propulsion team) set out on a mission to raise awareness of mental health and support the #asktwice initiative to get people talking about mental health.

Why? Because suicide is the biggest killer in men under 50 in England alone.

Our strategy was to take part in various physical challenges, from carrying an engine up a mountain to running 100km- non-stop.

On our rollercoaster journey, consisting of mainly shin splints, blisters, and plenty of carbohydrates, there was also a lot of fun.

We smashed the challenges and made progress in raising the profile of mental health while raising over £7000 for a small but mighty breast cancer charity called Little Lifts.

The positive response, camaraderie, and support in 2022 was overwhelming.

For 2023 our team “The JCB Lifters” are to continue our journey in supporting mental health with more goals & challenges.

We also hope to raise more money for Little Lifts and support those affected by breast cancer

Ø  1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime

Ø  Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women

The Little Lifts mission is to support women and men, by offering Little Lifts Boxes to support people through their chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment. We are raising funds that will directly support The Little Kindness Fund. The fund ensures that anyone going through breast cancer treatment, living in the UK, can apply for a Box free of charge to support them through their treatment.

Little Lifts Boxes are curated by people with experience of breast cancer. They are packed full of carefully selected products to provide practical support as well as mood-boosting goodies to promote emotional wellbeing during treatment.

The Challenges!

As a team some (but not all!) of our challenges and events are….

Ø  Complete the Ashby 20 mile run, Manchester marathon and Race to the kings 100km non-Stop.

Ø  Get a podium finish on the Ard Rock Enduro.

Ø  Team sky dive, Team Hike, and Sportif

Ø  Kayak and kamping trip

Ø  Compete in the Stockport Krazy races.

Ø  Mini Triathlon

Ø  Biggest challenge of all- 1 of us to not eat chocolate for a whole year….

Please share and get involved with the challenges, events or training in between.  We also welcome more events to add to what has already been planned....
