Ten for Ten Challenge

My Story

Every year in the UK, 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer. There are 61,000 women living with incurable breast cancer and everyday breast cancer takes the lives of 31 people.

Over one third of women do not regulary check their breasts - please remember to Feel it of the First!

Six weeks after my diagnosis I began chemotherapy treatment followed by surgery and radiotherapy treatment, at times it was so hard that I wanted to give up. I remember thinking that to get to ten years down line felt an impossible feat, but I am so grateful to have reached this point.  Over the last ten years I have had to say goodbye to too many amazing women because of breast cancer, their parting messages reminding us to live life.  This year (July) marks ten years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer so what better way to stand up to cancer than to take on ten challenges throughout the year whilst also raising awareness and vital funds for my small (but mighty) charity, Little Lifts.

It's the kindness I received from family and friends that inspires Little Lifts today and I am so thankful to Little Lifts and all the people involved for playing a massive part in my recovery. A big shout out goes to my amazing husband, Greg, my family, friends, neighbours (especically in the early days!), my most brilliant team and Board of Trustees, and the NHS for their incredible care of me.  To every beneficiary, fundraiser, volunteer, donor, corporate partner, Ambassador, Patron, individual, business, supplier and hospital partnership who wholeheartedly support Little Lifts, thank you!

This year, we are aspiring to distribute 10,000 Little Lifts Boxes so that people across the UK feel cared for, supported and not alone during their breast cancer treatment.  For every £1000 raised we can support approximately 17 people undergoing treatment.

So…what are the ten challenges?

1.     Cold Water Swimming throughout January – DONE

2.     Running 10k in a giant Little Lifts Box – April 21st

3.     Taking on the catwalk at the John Lewis Fashion Show (6th June)

4.     Walking 10 miles in a giant Little Lifts Box (August 3rd)

5.     Running 10k (Run Norwich) in the Little Lifts Box (Sept 8th)

6.     24-hour packing party (11th Sept)

7.     Walking ten miles in London (in said LL Box) (21st Sept)

8.     Holding a snake for hopefully no longer than 10 seconds!

9.     Earl grey blind taste test (because I am the fussiest tea drinker)

10.  TBC – ideas welcome!

All of this will fit around an already busy year at Little Lifts – every day Boxes whizz out of our HQ thanks to the work of my team and volunteers.  So much goes on behind the scenes from events to operational plans, fundraising to finance, marketing to IT – no day is ever the same!

But it is the feedback from beneficiaries and their families and friends that drive us and our community:

‘Every item in the box seems to have been chosen with immense care and empathy. The soothing lotion and lip balm, in particular, have already become cherished companions in combating the dryness that often accompanies chemotherapy. The thoughtful inclusion of chemotherapy essentials has made an incredible difference in my daily life, and I am genuinely touched by the attention to detail. This box is not just a collection of items; it is a manifestation of compassion and understanding. In the midst of the physical and emotional toll that cancer treatment takes, your thoughtful gift has managed to uplift my spirits in a way words cannot fully express. It is, without a doubt, the most considerate and heartfelt gift I have ever received… In this box, I found not just well-crafted essentials but a reservoir of hope, care, and the affirmation that I am not alone on this journey. Please accept my deepest gratitude for making a profound difference in my life during a time when it was needed the most.’

Thanks for reading, donating and for helping us to spread the Little Lifts LOVE far and wide.
